About Herne Bay

Herne Bay is a seaside town located on the north coast of Kent.   It is located 7 miles north from the City of Canterbury and 5 miles to the east of Whitstable.

Herne Bay’s seafront can claim to be the home of the world’s first freestanding purpose-built Clock Tower and also can boast the UK’s second longest pier.

The town also honours the English aviator Amy Johnson, with a bronze statue which can be found along the seafront.  Ms Johnson was the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930.  Unfortunately, Ms Johnson died when her plane crashed into the Thames Estuary near Herne Bay in January 1941.
