Members of our Sittingbourne office recently took part in a ‘Tough Mudder’ event at Finsbury Park in London to raise funds for the Felix Project , a charity whose mission is to collect fresh, nutritious food that cannot be sold and to deliver this surplus food to charities and schools, so they can provide healthy meals and help the most vulnerable in our society.
About The Felix Project
4.7 million adults in the UK struggle to afford to eat every day, and 2 million children are at also risk of missing their next meal. Meanwhile, the UK food industry generates more than 3 million surplus tonnes of good and edible food per annum.
The Felix Project was set up by Justin Byam Shaw to tackle both these issues and in memory of his son Felix who tragically died from Meningitis in 2014. Felix was a keen footballer and a compassionate boy who often thought of others without his advantages. His father Justin says that the inspiration comes from a football tournament where Felix was shocked and saddened to learn that many of the 10-year-old boys on the opposing team hadn’t had anything to eat that day.
This charity was inspired by Felix and is a lasting legacy to his name and compassionate nature.
Why this charity?
Given the current cost of living crisis, a greater number of people have become unable to access and afford healthy and nutritious meals. As a firm, this is something that we have been able to engage with due to the increasing costs of food. We understand how our donations can have a big impact on local communities, especially children who are unable to provide for themselves. We also specialise in services for charities and not-for-profit organisations and have a passion for supporting and fundraising for great causes like the Felix Project.
The team members have raised over £1000 for the charity smashing their original target to raise £500. If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause there is still time to do so by clicking here.
So what is a Tough Mudder?
The Tough Mudder is an endurance event series in which participants attempt 10-to-12-mile-long obstacle courses. The course is designed to test your fears and includes obstacles involving fire, water, electricity and heights.
Members from our Sittingbourne team tackled the 10km course of deep trenches of mud, along with 20 gruelling obstacles… including a leap of faith and a cage crawl!
When asked about what it meant to them the team said:
- “One of the toughest things I’ve ever done”
- “So muddy that the event has now been banned!”
- “Rollercoaster of emotions”
- “Amazing day for team building”
- “Great feeling being able to raise money and help those in need”
- “Took a battering but definitely worth it”
- “I had to face myself and my fears”
- “It was a rewarding feeling, conquering the course”
Well done team for getting around the course and raising funds for such an important charity.
