Margate and Gravesend are to benefit from a cash boost in the latest awards granted by the Coastal Communities Fund.
The Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) was established in 2012 with the aim of encouraging economic development of the UK’s coastal communities by awarding funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs. Since it’s conception the CCF in has awarded grants to 211 organisations across the UK to the value of £116 million aiming to deliver more than 12,000 jobs and attracting an additional £200 million of funds to coastal areas.
Gravesham Borough Council has been awarded £1.8m to transform Gravesend’s Borough Charter Market into a new retail centre designed to promote creative businesses and services. This funding is set to create 35 jobs and benefit 40 local businesses.
Meanwhile Thanet District Council will receive £247,000 to develop tourism along Thanet’s coast in Margate by supporting events and promoting heritage. This funding will create an additional 15 jobs.
Other seaside attractions across England will also benefit from this record £36 million government investment to boost growth in coastal areas.
