Announced in the Summer Economic Statement, the Green Homes Grant Scheme will make over 600,000 homes across the country more energy efficient and support over 100,000 jobs in green construction.

Simple survey and personalised energy saving plan

Homeowners and landlords are now able to find out more information about the government’s new Green Homes Grant scheme to see how they can help make their homes warmer and more energy efficient.  More information can be found on the Simple Energy Advice website.

The site contains a quick energy survey for consumers to see how energy efficient their homes are and suggestions in where improvements can be made.  Once the survey is completed, you will receive your own personalised energy saving plan suggesting the right energy saving measures for your property together with estimated annual savings.

The Green Homes Grants scheme is due to open by the end of September and allows consumers to obtain funding for up to two-thirds of the cost of the energy saving measures such as wall, floor and roofs insulation, installation of double or triple glazing when replacing single glazing and low-carbon heating.  The grants will be to a maximum of £5000, or up to £10,000 lower income households, and will take the form of vouchers.  These energy saving measures are designed to help families save up to £600 a year on their energy bills.

The Simple Energy Advice website also provides access to fully accredited tradespeople who are able to carry out the work needed, so homeowners and landlords can obtain quotes for when the vouchers become available.

Are you a tradesperson looking to take part?

If you are a tradesperson and would like to be included in the accredited list of tradespeople under the Green Homes Grant scheme, you should register through the TrustMark website.  Qualified tradespeople who already have membership of a recognised trade body such as the Federation of Master Builders, the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency and the Building Engineering Services Association, or who are already certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme should find registration a simple and quick process,

Criteria

To qualify all installers must meet Publicly Available Specification Standards to install energy efficiency measures. All work under the Green Homes Grant scheme must be completed to PAS 2030:2017. If you have already transitioned to PAS 2030:2019 you can work to this standard instead.  In addition, installers must meet the relevant Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) to install low carbon heat measures.
