Companies House scam

We have been made aware today of a scam and would like to draw your attention to this.

A letter has been received by our Sittingbourne office from the Register of Companies and Businesses based at 60 Cannon Street, London, a serviced office.

In the letter it is suggested that the recipient should be pay for ‘publication of their company’. However, this has been deliberately written to suggest it is an official request and something the recipient should do as part of launching a new business. Instead, however, the letter is purely selling advertising to a database of companies registered under the URL www.regist.co.uk.

As the company are practising such appalling scamming techniques and based out of a serviced office, with only online access, it is fair to say that the ‘Register of Companies and Businesses’ are at best demonstrating unethical businesses practices.

Please therefore ignore any letters you may receive from this business. Should you wish to look at registering your businesses with key commercial partners then there are many reputable organisations to do so with including the British Chamber of Commerce, The Federation of Small Businesses and locally the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce.

Companies House is aware of this letter.

Possible increased spamming

In a previous blog we posted about the fact that Companies House would be opening up data free to anyone in a bid for more transparency. Whilst this does provide more freedom of access this could also, however, result in an increase in spamming by unscrupulous individuals and companies out to make a quick buck at your expense.

Therefore it pays to extra vigilant with all communications and if in doubt don’t register with an organisation or part with money before checking for further details.
